Obituary for David Earl Montgomery
David Earl Montgomery, longtime resident of Gould, Oklahoma peacefully passed away on January 31, 2023, at his home at the age of sixty-six.
David was born on October 2, 1957 to Cecil Oliver Montgomery and Deethyia Montgomery.. David was raised in Denison, and the Harmon County area of Oklahoma. The Montgomerys were a family of strong Baptist faith. David's mother did her best to make sure that David and his siblings were all spiritually grounded. At the age of eighteen David decided to join the Oklahoma National Guard where he served his country honorably. Outside of his military duties, David primarily worked as a truck driver, but he was also an accomplished carpenter and shade tree mechanic. He loved working with his hands and solving complex problems. If it was broken David could fix it! He used this gift to help others in need and took pride in his work and making people smile. David loved to help others and would give the shirt off his back to help a complete stranger. When David wasn't working he enjoyed being outside hunting, tinkering around and hanging around any place where he could fish. David's biggest passion was simply spending time with his family and seeing them happy. David leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family, dedicated service to his community and country, and an irreplaceable imprint on the countless hearts and lives he impacted. He will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
Left to carry on David's legacy are his wife, Monica Striplang; his two children: Banetha F. and husband Randall Briggs, James Herman and wife Shannon Montogomery ; his stepchildren: Michaela, and husband Troy Clark, Michael Shawn and wife J'Cinda Striplang; his brothers: Ricky Montgomery and wife Jill; Brett Montgomery and wife Teresa, Donnie Montgomery, and wife Eva; his sisters: Grandchildren: Ashlynn Briggs, Leyton Striplang, Beau Clark, Kolby Montogomery, Cassie Montgomery, Westin Montogomery; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel, Hollis, Oklahoma.
