Deethyia Faye "Granny G" Montgomery
Deethyia Faye "Granny G" Montgomery, age 83, a longtime resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis.
Deethyia was born in Trenton, Texas on October 4, 1934 to her parents Don Williams and Jewell (Wright) Williams. She grew up in Tom Bean, Texas and also lived in Whitewright, Texas. In 1953 Deethyia married the love of her life Cecil Oliver Montgomery, Sr. in Whitewright, Texas and they enjoyed many years of marriage before his death in 1996. They lived in Texas for eighteen years and moved to Oklahoma and settled in Harmon County Oklahoma and resided in Vinson and later Hollis where they lived for the rest of their lives. She worked in the nursing profession for many years in Texas and Oklahoma where she loved taking care of people and most recently took great care of her grandson Little Mikey. She worked as a cook, bus driver, and teacher"s aide in the Texas and Oklahoma school systems and the sewing factory in Hollis and Altus in the 70"s and 80"s. Deethyia worked alongside her family in the fields hoeing and pulling cotton and hauling hay, she loved farming and taking care of her chickens. She was an acclaimed writer of poetry and received an award of merit in 1987 for "Oklahoma Springtime" and the Silver Poet award in 1990 for several of her other works. She has been faithful to God since she gave her life to God on Psalm Sunday in 1951. She has been a longtime member of the Faith Baptist Church in Hollis. She loved talking about God and was the Sunday School Director for 21 years as well as an Adult teacher and worked with children in the primary and nursey. Deethyia will always be remembered as making the best homemade banana pudding and homemade rolls. She loved her pets and her favorite dog MO that she always took great care of. She loved to garden when she was able and she always treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they came to visit. But most of all, Deethyia loved her Lord and she always made this statement, "If there is anyone here who does not know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior " Please make this decision today to take Him into your life".
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband Cecil, Sr.; her son Cecil Oliver Montgomery, Jr.; one brother, Plato Donald Williams; and her grandson, Brett Montgomery, Jr.; Deethyia is survived by five sons, Ricky Montgomery and wife Jill of Kentucky; Jimmy Montgomery and wife Shirley of Hollis; David Montgomery and Monica of Gould; Brett Montgomery and wife Teresa of Elk City; and Donnie Montgomery and wife Eva of Tulsa; three daughters, Patricia Johnson of Hollis; Dorothy Johnson and husband Marty of Hollis; and Kathy Saldivar of Hollis; one brother, Jerrell Williams of Texas; forty grandchildren, Chad and Rebecca; Sindy and Rick, Jr., Jamie, Jimmy Jr, Christina, Brian, Jessica, Herman, Banetha, Shane, and Michaela; Jason, Coy, and Jamie; Brittney, Michael, Justice, Shilin, Devin, and Jake; John, Crystal, Cameron, Montgomery, Patrick, and Michael; Joshua; Wendie, Raven, and Robin; forty-three great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieced and nephews, other family members and many friends.
Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2017 and 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Harmon County Funeral Home in Hollis.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the Faith Baptist Church in Hollis with Randy Overstreet and Larry Argo officiating. Interment will follow funeral services at Cave Creek Cemetery in Vinson, Oklahoma under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
