Obituary for Alice J. Davis
Alice Josephine "Jo" Davis, 91, formerly of Blair, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009, at Shawnee Care Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Jo was born July 6, 1918, in Eldorado, Oklahoma, to W. L. and Emma Lou (Baker) Starwalt. She grew up in Blair and attended Midway School west of Blair. She married Delbert L. Davis December 21, 1935, in Blair, and he preceded her in death March 21, 1995.
Jo was a farm girl all her life, helping her dad on the family farm. During her school years, she played basketball and excelled in the sport. As a young girl, she and her best friend, Nellie Sullivan, loved to play pranks on their friends.
Jo was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a great cook, and when her sisters came to town, they always came to Jo"s house because she was the best cook in town. She loved to garden, quilt, and was a member of a quilting circle. She enjoyed teaching her granddaughters to quilt and sew baby blankets and clothes. She played dominoes with her family, and they loved to accuse her of "cheating."
Jo was a member of the Senior Citizens and a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Blair.
She is survived by her son, Dale Davis and wife Pat of McLoud, Oklahoma; one brother, Mabry L. Starwalt and wife Katherine of Altus; three grandchildren, Phyllis Thomas and husband Jim of Prague, Oklahoma, Fonda Manwell of Oklahoma City, and Faron Davis and wife Linda of Dale, Oklahoma; eight great-grandchildren, Christi Luka and husband Andy of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Lindsi Thomas of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Rylan Manwell and wife Kailee of Jones, Oklahoma, Landon Manwell of Jones, Tiffany Lackey and husband Jake of McLoud, Oklahoma, Jennifer Davis, Danielle Davis, and Tyler Davis, all of Dale, Oklahoma; two step grandsons, Brentley Abilez and Ryan Abilez, both of Dale; three great-great grandchildren, Logan Luka and Mason Luka, both of Choctaw, and Cooper Manwell of Jones. Several nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive her.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Delbert Davis, one brother, Buck Starwalt, and four sisters, Sylvia Hill, Alvina Fogle, Lizzie Gaines, and Anna Mae Stokes.
