Obituary for Alton Eugene Ward
Alton Eugene Ward, 83, of Hollis, OK, passed away on Wednesday, February 14th in Amarillo, TX, after a short illness.
Alton was born near Gould, Oklahoma to Gaines Joseph and Lorena Mae (Bryant) Ward on January 23, 1935. He attended school at Gould, Eldorado, and Louis Hill. Alton married Beatrice Lynette English on November 26, 1955. To this union eight children were born.
Alton spent his adult years first in Texas, and later in Oklahoma, working as a carpenter and farmer/rancher, raising cattle and hogs. He worked for 25 years at the Republic Gypsum Company in Duke, OK, where he received several Safety Awards.
Alton enjoyed spending time with his family, visiting with friends, drinking coffee, and going to his grandchildren’s many activities. He took great pride in the fact that he was able to attend the high school and college graduations of all of his grandchildren. In his later years, Alton liked to attend estate and farm auctions, where he could always find someone interesting to visit with.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Gaines Otis Ward, one half-sister Twana Ward, and twin infant daughters Susan Lorena Ward and Shirley Elaine Ward.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, James Alton and wife Barbara of Midland, TX; Dwane Eugene and wife Patty of Brownfield, TX; Tommy Edward and wife Robin of Hollis, OK; Terry Lynn and wife Donnita of Eden Prairie, MN; Sherry Lynette Ward of Amarillo, TX; and Amy Marie Piercy and husband Tommy of Amarillo, TX. He will also be fondly remembered by his two sisters, Loretta Ann Mitchell and husband Melvin of Bridgeport, TX,and Retha Lorena Collins and husband Don of North Richland Hills, TX, a half-brother Chris Rich Ward of Roanoke, TX, a half-sister, Treva Dale Daugherty of Moore, OK, and numerousgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cousins.
Pallbearers are Cody Lee Ward, Russell Dean Ward, Ryan Thomas Piercy, Jacob Kelly Ward, Jeffrey Chad Hall, James ‘Jim’ Buchanon McBrayer, Trenton ‘Trent’ Wade Pelletier, Travis Gene Thacker, and Benjamin Lee Soliz.
Honorary pallbearers are Melvin Mitchell and Don Collins.
Visitation will be Sunday February 18th from 5 to 7 pm at Harmon County Funeral Home in Hollis, OK.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am Monday, February 19th at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Louis Cemetery. Arrangements are by Harmon County Funeral Home.
