Alvin Eddie Clendennen, lovingly known as “Eddie,” was born on February 26, 1947, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Lillie Mae (Ballou) Clendennen. In the early 1950s, his family relocated to Altus, Oklahoma a place Eddie would always call home.
After completing his education, Eddie proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a boilerman. When his service concluded, he returned to Altus, where he began building the life, career, and legacy that would define him.
It was in 1967, at a local dance, that Sharon first noticed Eddie and his unforgettable dance moves. Just days later, Eddie spotted Sharon working at the local Dairy Queen, and from that moment, their love story began. They were united in marriage on April 10, 1968, in Altus, Oklahoma. Sharon remained the love of his life, his pride, and his greatest partner through all of life’s journeys.
Eddie’s strong work ethic was evident throughout his life. He worked with Eddie Williamson Construction, helping build several apartment complexes in Altus. In 1988, he and Sharon pursued their entrepreneurial dreams by opening Smokehouse BBQ on Falcon Road. They later opened Sharon’s and, at the same time, launched Eddie’s—a beloved burger joint still fondly remembered for its incredible food. When asked about the secret to his success, Eddie would humbly credit long hours, hard work, and the unwavering support of his favorite person Sharon.
Beyond his work, Eddie embraced life with passion and creativity. He loved riding dirt bikes, listening to music, exploring caves, and expressing himself through art. An incredibly talented artist, he could draw nearly anything and generously shared his gift with others by creating artwork and graphics for local businesses. He also enjoyed collecting ostrich eggs and contributing to community traditions, including painting Christmas cutouts for “Christmas in the Park.” Among his many acts of love, he built a cherished dollhouse for his granddaughter. He had a servant's heart and would do anything to help a stranger, he served countless residents who were in need of a meal never expecting anything in return.
Above all else, Eddie’s greatest joy was his family. He loved deeply and unconditionally, and his devotion to his wife and loved ones was evident in everything he did.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon (Ballard) Clendennen; his children, Tina Kendall and husband Michael, Thomas and wife Tracy, and Eddie Ray and wife Kaleigh; and his fifteen grandchildren: Brian, Dylan, Connor, Mia, Danielle, Megan, Logan, Wyatt, Tara, Megan, Bryan, Kailee, Kamrin, Trey, kaden, and Kreed. He is also survived by twenty-five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Susan Kay Brand and Loretta Mae Hillard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Eddie was preceded in death by his infant son, Timmy; his mother, Lillie Mae (Ballou) Clendennen; and his twin brother, Ed Clendennen.
Eddie’s life was a testament to hard work, creativity, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
