Obituary for Angelana (Lena) Adele Bynum
Angelena Adele DeCarlo Bynum known to most as 'Lee' or "Lena" passed from this llife and into Heaven on August 6, 2003 at the age of 78.
Lena was born on December 16, 1924 in New Haven, Conneticut to Marie Concetta "Kate: and Michael DeCarlo. She graduated from Commercial High School in 1942 and worked in the clerical field for Civil Service in Washington, D.C. It was shortly after that she met husband bo be, Ted who was a sailor with the U.S. Navy serving on the submarine The U.S.S. Cachalot. They married on November 3, 1943 in New Haven, Connecticut. Together they had four children, William Chester "Chet" Bynum Jr., Karen Maurine Hooper, Michael Monroe Bynum, and Camille Lenee' Johnson. In 1981, she was blessed with her first granddaughter, Kyla Lenee; Bryant. In 1987, she was blessed with her only grandson, Brady Cole Bryant, and 1197, she was blessed with her second granddaughter, Cameron Taylor Johnson.
She devoted her entire life to raising her family. She was a wonderful cook and famous for the wonderful Italian dishes she made, a pecan pie that no one else could mater, and the best ice tea around. She was a self-taught seamstress and sewed for many Eldorado citizens through the years. After attaining the role of "Grandma Lee', she spent the remaining years before her stroke in February 1999 doting over and helping raise her three grandchildren. Until that time, she was the feisty little Italian woman who still rode her bike all over town. The last 41/2 years, she lived with the difficulty of being wheelchair-bound yet, she always had a positive attitude and never complained about her limitations. When asked, "how are you?, she always replied "fine".
Lena is survived by her four children and their spouses; Chet and Linda Bynum of Mustang, Oklahoma; Karen and Keith Hooper of Eldorado; Mike Bynum of Crowell, Texas; and Camille and Doug Johnson of Eldorado; her grandchildren Kyla Bryant of Lawton, Oklahoma; Brady Bryant and Cameron Johnson of Eldorado; one sister, Amelia "Patty" Steward, Eldorado; and one brother and his wife Victor and Margie DeCarlo of Green Castle, Indiana. Also surviving are her sister-in-laws and brother-in-law Mae Slaton of Amarillo, Texas; Izetta Bynum of Lubbock, Texas; and Renie and Bob Chapman of Sanger, Texas. She also leaves behind a very special childhood friend whom she remained in contact with until her death, Mary Damian Dixon from east Haven, Connecticutl
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted in November 2000 and her parents.
