Obituary for Arla Edward Hallford
Arla E. Hallford Arla E. Hallford, 100, died Friday, March 31, 2000, in the Grace Living Center in Mangum, Oklahoma. Funeral services are set for 10:30 AM Monday at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado with his grandson, the Rev. Ronny J. White, officiating. Dr. Dean Goodfellow will assist. Interment will be in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas. Arla was born November 17, 1899, in Newburg Community, Comanche County, Texas, to Edward Lewis and Henrietta (Cunningham) Hallford. He married Willie Couch June 10, 1922 in Blanket, Texas. Hallford attended Howard Payne College and Baylor University. He was a teacher in Newburg and Superintendent of schools in Grosvenor, Texas until 1940. He then worked for the Texas Department of Public Welfare in Quanah, Amarillo and Eastland until his retirement in 1963. Her was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one sister, Alda McCarty; son-in-law, Gendon Hays; and infant grandson, Wes Williams. Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law: Dorothy and Homer Jackson, Amarillo, Texas, Billie Hays, Fort Smith, Arkansas, Pat and Durward Williams, Aubrey, Texas and Lou Helen and Jay White, Eldorado, Oklahoma; one niece and her husband: Bobby and Marshall Ray, Mineral Wells, Texas; Eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
