Obituary for Arthur Frazier
Arthur "Pop" Frazier was born on November 29, 1929, in Leon County, Oklahoma. He was the third of ten children born to Hinze Frazier and Ada Putman Frazier.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was part of the occupation forces stationed in Korea at the end of World War II. After a brief return to civilian life, he returned to the military and served with the Army Air Corps and then the U.S. Air Force. During his years in the service he was stationed in many parts of the world, including the Territory of Alaska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Japan, New Jersey, and England. He received many awards over the years including the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air force Food Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Campaign Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, the National Defense Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Air Force Longevity Medal, and the Small Arms award for marksmanship.
He married Fern Margaret Carrigan on August 22, 1952, in San Gabriel, California.
He retired from the Air Force on June 1, 1968 at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. In 1969 he moved with his wife and two daughters, Laura Elaine and Margaret Ann, to Altus. He worked as a jet mechanic and as supervisor of an engine testing facility until he retired from Civil Service in 1984. He received numerous honors from his civilian career at Altus Air Force base, and was known to "adopt" young airmen in need of encouragement. They called him "Pop".
Mr. Frazier loved to garden and loved to work with wood. He enjoyed working with his hands and was always good about fixing things. He believed in finishing any job he had started, and he believed in giving 100% effort to anything he tackled.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Carrigan Frazier, of Altus, by his daughters, Laura Frazier Benton, and her husband, John, of Killeen, Texas, and Margaret Frazier Owens, and her husband, Rickey, of Elgin, Oklahoma, and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Anna Dean Murr of Oktaha, Oklahoma and Linda Hood of Drum, Texas, and four brothers, Adrian Frazier, Mackie Frazier, Jimmie Frazier and Joe Ben Frazier, all of Leon, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alvin Frazier and Bailey Fraizer, and a sister, Addie Lee Billings.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, at 1:00pm in the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Sonny Tims officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Fort Sill Cemetery at 3 :00pm under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
