Obituary for Barbara Ophelia Street
Barbara Ophelia Street, 83, longtime resident of Altus, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 at her home. Ophelia was born December 28, 1928, in Prairie Hill, Oklahoma to Fred and Essie (Cowling) Brinkman. She graduated high school at Victory High School. She attended Altus Junior College, now known as Western Oklahoma State College.

She married Louis Street March 5, 1954 in Presidio Chapel in San Francisco, California. They were happily married for 54 years and six months. Ophelia worked in the medical profession as an office nurse for over 40 years. She loved working with the doctors and enjoyed her profession.

Ophelia was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Altus where she enjoyed attending Sunday School and studying God's word with the treasured members of her class. She was a member of the Intercessory Prayer Room at the Church. She sang in the adult church choir for many years. Ophelia was a devoted Christian, wonderful partner to her husband and a wonderful mother to her daughter, Gretchen.

She was a member of Eastern Star and the American Business Women's Association. She was also a member of the Gideon Organization. She loved to play dominoes with her friends.

Ophelia was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister-in-law, (Velvia) Mae Watts; a brother, Elmo Brinkman and a sister-in-law, Fern.

She is survived by her daughter, Gretchen Street of the home in Altus, a brother-in-law, Richard (Dick) Watts of Temple, Texas, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jane and Malcolm Jackson of Montague, Michigan; several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Altus with Rev. Keith Wiginton and Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. The family will have Visitors from 6:30-7:30 pm Wednesday October 17, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Altus, the Gideon Organization or to the charity of choice.
