Obituary for Benton Ray Baucum
Benton Ray Baucum Benton Baucum was born January 13, 1928 at Friendship, Oklahoma. He was the son of the late J. B. and Myrtle (Wiginton) Baucum. He died March 24, 2000 at the Comanche County Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma. He married Reaga Cavness on December 26, 1942 in Clovis, New Mexico, Benton served in the United States Army. He was a retired educator, having taught from 1953 until he retired in 1990. During his teaching career he taught in the Altus School System, the Albuquerque, New Mexico system, in Houston, Missouri, in the Tucumcari, New Mexico system, Sapulpa School System where he retired in 1990. He was a long time resident of Altus and Jackson County and a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a member of the National Mathmatics Council. He enjoyed gardening in his spare time. Survivors include: Wife Reaga Baucum Altus, Oklahoma 2 Children Kerrie Herring & John Tipton, Oklahoma Erin Pedersen Post, Texas 3 Brothers Bill Baucum San Antonio, Texas Don Baucum Quanah, Texas Tom Baucum Castle Rock, Colorado 2 Sisters Lahoma Baker Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Virginia Smith Lubbock, Texas 4 Grandchildren Ephriam Mathis, Amy Pedersen, Eric Pedersen and Laura Pedersen Benton was preceded in death by his parents. Services are scheduled for 2 PM Monday, March 27, 2000 at the Emanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment at the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
