Obituary for Bertha Mae Hutchison
Bertha Mae Hutchison was born April 15th, 1911, to Leander and Leona (Fletcher) Emberlin in Katie, Oklahoma, and went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ November 19th, 1998, in Altus, Oklahoma.
Bertha married Uloth Lyles in November 1928 and he preceded her in death in 1941. She later married Earl Hutchison, who also preceded her in death in 1970. Besides her parents and husbands, she is also preceded in death by three brothers, Doyle, Noel and Jess Emberlin; one son, Edward Lyles; one daughter, Mary Williams; one grandson, James Williams and one granddaughter, Sherry Lynn Culp.
She is survived by one sister, Ruth Ware of Sapulpa, OK; one daughter, Wanda Smith of Altus, Oklahoma; three sons, Billy Lyles of Luther, OK, Kenneth Lyles of Altus and Earl Hutchison of Garden Grove, CA. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Bertha was a home worker all of her life, having lived in the Warren and Blair communities since 1946. She professed Christ as her Savior at an early age and has been an active member of the First Baptist Church in Blair since 1963. She served her Lord in many ways including being an avid supporter of missions at every level. She was also a great prayer warrior, praying always for her church, her pastor and missions and missionaries around the world. Most notably, she has always prayed for the salvation of her family and friends. Her hearts desire until her death was that each of her children and grandchildren would know Christ as Savior and serve Him through the Church.
Bertha is also remembered for the service she rendered to her many friends. Many of them can say today they have owned clothing either made by or mended by or pressed by Bertha. Several could say they have been covered by one of the many quilts she made.
Bertha was also a member of the FCE Club and the Sunshine Club. One of her favorite things to do was visit her shut-in friends in Blair. She was also a member of the Jackson County Home Extension Club, Grandmothers Club, W.M.U Church Group, and Outreach Leader for Naomi Sunday School Class. But, Bertha would be the first to say, "Enough about me, talk about Jesus." Her favorite scripture was Phillipians 4:4-7, "May each of you know this peace"
Services have been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 23, 1998 at the First Baptist Church of Blair with Rev. Randy Mitchell and Rev. Marshal Howard officiating. Interment will follow in the Warren Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for Foreign Missions, First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 7, Blair, OK, 73526, the Warren Cemetery Fund or Hospice of Altus.
