Obituary for Bettie Louise Peters
On June 14, 2018 Bettie Louise (Tackett) Peters returned to her Heavenly home. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her and gave her peace. Bettie was born March 7,1928 in Weatherford, Oklahoma to Thomas L. and Nell Tackett.
She graduated from Arapaho, Oklahoma High School in 1946 and worked as a nurse in an Elk City hospital. She attended Southwestern State University. She was an aspiring nurse but her life took a different path when she met and married C.A. Peters. They were married on August 8th, 1947 in Clinton, Oklahoma. Together they established residence in Altus, Oklahoma in August, 1948. She worked with her husband as a licensed insurance and real estate agent. Bettie was active in the Community as a member of Beta Mothers Club, The Daffodil Garden Club, The McDowell of Allied Arts , and The Altus Literary Club. After her husband retired she became a business partner in real estate with Gary Weyer until they retired in 1990. Some of her greatest joy in life was her love of gardening and landscape architecture. She derived great pleasure from helping her friends decorate their flower gardens and she often mentioned her good friend "Ernesto" who helped complete her many landscaping projects. Another of mom's passions was her love of playing bridge. She belonged to several bridge clubs. It was her partners who helped her achieve the rank of Life Master in July 1993. Bettie was married to her husband C.A. for 59 years before his death in 2006. During their time together they dutifully and gladly followed all three sons as they wrestled, played golf, and football at Altus High School. They also served as class parents. Bettie was also preceded in death by parents Tom and Nell Tackett of Vinita, Oklahoma, brother Jim Tackett of Ono Island, Alabama, brother Tommy Tackett, of Clinton, Oklahoma, and grandson Aaron Peters of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is survived by son Tom Peters and Adela Hughes of Altus, Oklahoma, son and wife David and Kathy Peters of Gulf Shores, Alabama, son and wife Jerry and Donna Peters of Guthrie, Oklahoma, grandchildren, Brett Peters and wife Virginia of Edmond, Oklahoma, Silas Peters and wife Tracy of Tupelo, Mississippi, Adrienne Peters of Oklahoma City along with four great grandchildren and other nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Altus, Oklahoma or the charity of your choice. A private family service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church Altus, Oklahoma at 11am Monday, June 18, 2018. Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in charge of services.
