Betty Jean Cumbie, age 84, of Altus and formerly of Mangum, passed away early Friday morning, January 13, 2017, at Tamarack Retirement Center, in Altus.
Mrs. Cumbie was born in Brinkman, Oklahoma on September 17, 1932, to Roy and Eva (Lewis) Burnam. After Eva passed away, her father remarried Katie Richard O"Hara Stewart and together she and Roy raised fourteen children. As a child, Jean lived in White Flat where she attended school through the eighth grade. They later moved to Reed, in 1948, where she attended high school and graduated with the class of 1950. Jean married Othel E. Cumbie and worked at a drug store and as a bank teller in Snyder, Texas. After moving to Mangum, she worked as a teller at Guarantee State Bank for several years. In her spare time, Jean enjoyed working with her flowers, in her yard, and taking in stray animals. Jean mostly loved spending time with family and friends, especially her two granddaughters.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Keith Cumbie; eight brothers, Buster, Lonnie, Edward, Oliver, Delmar, Benny, Robert and Foss, and one great grandson Matthew Allen Medlock, Jr. She is survived by two children, Kathy Harry and husband Chuck of Dove Canyon, California and Kenneth Cumbie of Hubbard, Texas; two granddaughters, Amanda Konen and husband Bobby of Altus and Jenna Medlock and husband Matthew of San Antonio, Texas; three great grandchildren, Jaxon Konen, Pearl Medlock and Gunner Medlock; daughter-in-law Carol Cumbie of Altus, two sisters, Patty Spoon and husband Rex of Cottonwood, California and Genell Dement and husband Gary of Mangum; three brothers, Dale Burnam and wife Flo of Mangum, Steve Burnam of Golden, Colorado and Leb Burnam and wife Wanda of Davenport, Florida; along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Jean Cumbie will be at 2 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2017, at the Mangum Church of Christ with Gary Dement officiating. Interment will follow at the Brinkman Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, January 15, 2017, from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m.
