Betty Karr, age 86, of Dripping Springs, Texas, formerly of Altus, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2007, at Hill Country Care Center.

Mrs Karr was born on May 1, 1921, in Altus, to Herman and Marie (Mansur) Talkington. A graduate of Altus High School, Betty attended the University of Oklahoma, studied Drama and taught many years in the Altus School System as a substitute teacher. Betty married Al Karr on May 2, 1942, in Mangum, Oklahoma and they spent fifty-seven wonderful years together before his death on May 8, 1999. A long-time member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ, Betty was also very active in the Ladies; Auxiliary of the American Legion Post in Altus. She held the office of Auxiliary Department President in Oklahoma from 1976-1977. Her particular passion was assisting in Girls State and advocating for war veterans. During her lifetime she enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, boating and riding horses, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family whom she dearly loved.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Al and one brother, George
Talkington, she is survived by four children, Albert Henry (Hank) Karr, Jr. and wife DeeAnn of Altus, Jesse Karr of Oklahoma City, Karmen Willis and husband Gawain of Robertsville, Missouri and Kathy Boydston and husband Gleen of Dripping Springs, Texas; six grandchildren, Albert Henry (Bert) Karr lll of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Cyndi Arbuckle of Haslett, Texas, Kris Andrews of Keithville, Louisiana, Matt Willis of Robertsville, Missouri, Paul Willis of Union City, Oklahoma and Lindsay Kirwin of Stillwater, Oklahoma along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Betty Karr will be at 10 am, Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Mack Powers officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 6 until 7 pm on Monday, May 28, 2007.
