Billie G. Maas, age 87, of Mangum, passed away early Friday morning, April 8, 2011, at Quartz Mountain Medical Center in Mangum.
Mrs. Maas was born on November 26, 1923, in Tipton, Oklahoma to Granville R. and Willie O"Dean (Pierce) Smith. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and later to Vernon, Texas where she graduated from high school. After attending Texas Women"s University at Denton, she taught school in Blair, while living in Mangum. On September 14, 1944, she married Herbert William Maas II at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, where he was assigned in the U.S. Army. Following Herbert"s release from the Army, they made their home in Virginia for the next thirty years while he served with Civil Service. In the late 70"s, they moved to Mangum, and lived until their deaths. Billie was a den mother for Cub Scouts, played bridge and collected antiques.
Preceded in death by her parents and husband, she is survived by one son, Bill Maas of Mangum; six nieces and nephews, Cindy Ritter and husband Gordon of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Patty Nabors and husband Jerry of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jennifer Gilliland of Edmond, Oklahoma, Lisa Holt Seay of Tulsa, Lynse Morgan and husband Tim of Tulsa, Joe Mac Silk and wife Lindy of Broken Bow and Steve Holt and wife Jodi of Stillwater, Oklahoma along with many other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services for Billie Maas will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2011, at Riverside Cemetery with Rev. Cindy Ritter officiating. Greer Funeral Home of Mangum is in charge of arrangements.
