BERRY
Bill Berry, age 82, longtime resident of Duke, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Bridges Rehabilitation at Plantation Village in Altus.
Bill was born in Denver, Colorado on May 31, 1935 to his parents Jim Dandy and Jewell (Price) Berry. He was raised in Megargel, Texas and at the age of 16 he joined the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. Bill enlisted into the United States Army and was stationed in Korea and after a 15-year career in active duty he joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard and retired from the Army with more than 25 years of combined service to his country. On September 3, 1993, he married Susie Sirmons in Duke and they have enjoyed many years of marriage together. Bill was also a Fire Chief for the Civil Service at Fort Sill and retired with more than 27 years. After retiring Bill did not slow down, he stayed active in service to his community with the Jackson County Sheriff"s Department for many years and worked security at the American Gypsum Plant as well as the Town Marshall in Duke. In his spare time Bill enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends in Altus and Duke. He enjoyed the outdoors going camping and fishing, but family was always first for Bill and he will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Glenda Pat Pettit in 1992; one sister, Jimmie Lee Dunlap; Bill is survived by his wife Susie of the home; two sons, James Berry and with Candace of Burleson, Texas; and John Vaughn and wife Carla of Snyder, Oklahoma; one daughter, Jordan Berry of Duke; one stepdaughter, Karen Marrow of Henderson, Neveda; ten grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
The family will greet friends at memorial visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
