Bonnie Carrigan Whitehead Cantrell, age 93, of Altus, passed away early Saturday morning, January 7, 2007, at Plantation Care Center in Altus.

Mrs. Cantrell was born on January 4, 1914, in Frazer, Kentucky to Jack and Lenora (Hollars) Carrigan. She married Henry Cleo Whitehead on July 20, 1935, in Lawton Oklahoma. Later they moved to Tipton where they were engaged in farming and both their daughters were there. Moving to Davidson, Oklahoma to farm, they later moved to Pecos Texas where Cleo worked in the oil field. During the war, Cleo worked for Civil Service a short time in defense plants in Illinois and Neosho, Missouri. They lived in Frederick for a brief time before moving back to Tipton and then to Hess where they farmed. Later they moved to Friendship to farm and Cleo worked at Altus Air Force Base. While living in the Friendship community they were foster parents to twelve children and were members of the Friendship Methodist Church where Bonnie taught Sunday School.

In 1978, Bonnie moved to Altus and married James O. Cantrell on January 24, 1979. Her marriage to James blessed her with two sons, a daughter and their families. They attended the Friendship Methodist Church and later joined the First Assembly of God Church after the Methodist Church disbanded. Bonnie was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

For approximately six years, she lived with her daughter and son=in-law in Hess while living there she was cared for by JCMH Home Care and JCMH Hospice. She attended Hess Baptist Church while living there and moved to Plantation Village in January of 2005.

Bonnie loved the Lord, family, friends, nature, bird watching, yard work, keeping her home and decorating for holidays. Above all, Bonnie's favorite thing in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were very special to her.

Preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three sisters, Joan Smith, Josephine Carrigan and Bryan Hayes; four brothers, Samuel, Jack, Fount and Norman Carrigan; a son, Joe Cantrell and son-in-law, Alan Goldie, she is survived by four children, Betty Briscoe and husband Jim of Hess, Barbara Goldie of Redlands, California, Jim Cantrell and wife Edith of Bethany Oklahoma and Joyce Haley of Oklahoma City; one daughter-in-law, Lela Cantrell of Colorado Springs; eleven grandchildren, Jima Beach and husband Gary, Jimmie Briscoe and wife Leslie, all of Altus, Alana Marietta and husband Bo of Heath, Ohio, Cathi Goldie of Newark, Ohio, Lance Goldie and wife Jacki of Redlands, California, Sharon Kercher and husband Ron if Aurora, Colorado, Valerie Steward and husband Rob of Klawock, Alaska, Randy Cantrell and wife Debbie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma Rick Cantrell and wife Cindy of Poetry, Texas, Ryan Haley and wife Amy of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Erica Haley of Washington, D.C.; nineteen great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Christina Beach, Shelby and Mackenzie Briscoe, all of Altus, Zac and Alexander Marietta of Heath, Ohio, Joshua Gooden of Cleveland, Ohio, Daniel and Jacob Gooden of Newark, Ohio, Brian Goldie of Redlands, California, Scott and Luke Kercher of Aurora, Colorado, Melissa and Laura Steward of Klawock, Alaska, Rachel and J.J. Cantrell of Broken Arrow , Oklahoma, Lindsey, Lauren and Austin Cantrell of Poetry,
Texas, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Bonnie Carrigan Whitehead Cantrell will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the First Assembly of God with Dr. Richard Ventonis officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, from 6 until 8 p.m.
