Buddy C. Patterson, age 80, of Altus, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 19, 2015, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.
Mr. Patterson was born near Carnegie, Oklahoma, on the family farm, on June 13, 1934, to W.C. and Della (Coats) Patterson. Graduating from Sickles High School in 1952, Buddy attended Oklahoma A & M before joining the United States Air Force. After proudly serving his country for over twenty years, Buddy retired as a flight engineer at Altus Air Force Base. Buddy obtained his private pilot license and began Altus Flying Service and Altus Air Lines which flew twice daily to Love Field, in Ft. Worth. Buddy also became the State Designee Flight Examiner for people wishing to obtain an Oklahoma Pilot"s license. In the 1970"s, Buddy was instrumental in the success of cloud seeding in Southwest Oklahoma by furnishing two planes for the operation. Buddy also stationed two planes in Africa for cloud seeding purposes. On February 8, 1991, he married Claudene (Parker) Lankford and they established their home in Altus. He later taught Jerry Neilson to fly and they became business partners. On one excursion, they met Mr. Blancett and formed a working partnership, opening Blancett Manufacturing, at Altus City Airport, a business that still exists today, manufacturing flow meters. A keen mechanic, Buddy enjoyed woodworking, flying radio controlled aircraft, boating, gospel music, fishing, working to have the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood and; of the most importance to Buddy, caring for those he loved.
Preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley Hopkins Patterson; one brother, Virgil Patterson and an infant sister Bonnie, he is survived by his wife, Claudene Patterson, of the home; three children, Melanie Patterson McGlone and husband Stan Smith of Yukon, Michael N. Patterson and wife Jessie of Headrick and Bren Jackson and husband John C. of Quanah, Texas; seven grandchildren, Melena (Whistle) McGlone and husband Kevin McElveney of Elk City, Dyndi McGlone, Della M. Patterson of Binger, Mariah N. Patterson of Altus, Jamie Chapman and husband Layne of Doans Crossing, Texas, Preston Romines of Altus and Rachael Romines of Headrick; five great grandchildren, Dillan McElveney, Keegan McElveney, Macain McGlone, Zoie Romines and Jaxon Chapman; one sister Doris Patterson Nicholson and husband Darriel (Buck) of Clinton; one sister-in-law Billie Jean Deason Patterson of Hinton along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Buddy Patterson will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Buck Nicholson officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
