Obituary for Carl Arthur Smelser
Mr. Carl A. Smelser, age 73, long time resident of Kiowa County died Saturday night at Hobart Elkview Hospital.

Funeral services have been set for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday at the High School Auditorium in Roosevelt, officiated by Ardron Hinton and assisted by the Reverend Joel Cook and Reverend Eli Shelton. Burial will be in Hobart Cemetery under direction of Lowell Funeral Home of Altus.

Born July 29th, 1901 in Edmond, he came to the Cooperton community in 1903 when his Father, the late C.W. Smelser, established a bank there. He was married in 1928 to the former Elouise Austin, who survives of the home in Roosevelt. He was active as President and Chairman of the Board of the Security State Bank in Roosevelt until a short time before his death. He attended Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma University , was a member of Sigma Chi, Lions International, and past member of the Oklahoma State Banking Board. He was a Mason and a member of the United Methodist Church in Roosevelt.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of the home, include: two sons, Carl Austin Smelser of Roosevelt and Joseph Smelser II of La Jolla, CA; one sister, Mrs. Irene Straw of Santa Fe, NM; four grandchildren.

The body will lie in state at Lowell Memorial Chapel in Roosevelt.
