Obituary for Carl Ernest Johnson
Carl Ernest Johnson, long time resident of Jackson County died Wednesday, April 30. He was born in Gunterville, Alabams on August 19, 1899. he and his parents moved to near Marlow, Oklahoma in 1910 and then to Jackson County in 1917. He was ingaged in farming, ranching and oil field work near Humphreys. He marrid Myrtle Mae Stults in Duncan, Oklahoma on August 25, 1919. They lived on the farm until retirement n 1964 and later moved to 1125 E. Liveoak in Altus in 1977.
Mr. Johnson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus, was a member f the Altus Masonic Lodge #62 for 60 years and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a patriotic citizen and helped organize the Jackson County War Bond Drive during World War II. He served on the Jackson Co. Election Board for approximately 30 years and helped organize and was a charter member of the Humphreys Gin and Elevator.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle, of the home in Altus; four sons, Lloyd Johnson, Altus, Oklahoma; Donald Johnson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Bluford Johnson, Lynn Haven, Florida; Charles Johnson, Clinton, North Carolina; four daughters, Jacqueline Jenkins, Springfield, Missouri; Nelda Grambling, Hobart, Oklahoma; Glenda Southern, Altus, Oklahoma; Jeanette Jones, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nineteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, one brother, Carnie Johnson, Long Beach, California; two sisters, Iva Martin, Hermit, California; Odessa Horton, Long Beach, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Ella Johnson, one brother, three sisters, one grandson.
Services will be held Friday, May 2 at 2:00 pm in the First Baptist, Church, Altus, with Rev. Keith Wiginton and Rev. Noel George officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery.
