Obituary for Carole Ann Hysinger
Carole Ann Hysinger, 86, Altus, passed away at her home on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Carole Ann was born on October 2, 1939, in McAlester, Oklahoma to J.H. and Oleta (Martin) LaFevers. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. On January 10, 1984, she was baptized and gave her life to Christ. She attended McAlester schools and graduated as Salutatorian in May of 1957. During her high school years, she took many lessons in voice, twirling, speech, and drama. She was a Rainbow Girl and was a member of the Rainbow sextet which traveled across Oklahoma. Here in Altus, she studied dance and was in the "Steppin' Out" group that performed locally. Carole Ann attended East Central University and North Texas State University. She graduated from Cameron University with her bachelor's degree in 1970 and from the University of Oklahoma with her master's degree in 1986. She loved teaching and taught at several schools with her degree in English, Speech, and Drama. She taught at Altus Junior High, Northeast Junior High, Shawnee High, Rose State College, Del City High, Altus High, and finally at Western Oklahoma State College, retiring in 1996. She enjoyed directing Broadway musicals and many of her funniest and best times occurred during these plays. Carole, hopefully, touched many students' lives, not only in subjects but in a way to live their lives to the best of their ability.
The Hysingers loved traveling and making friends in different cities. She was a member of teacher organizations such as the National Education Association, Oklahoma Education Association, and the Altus Retired Teachers. She loved writing poetry and going to their Lake Texoma lake home, where she made lifelong friends. Carole was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi and belonged when they started the "Miss Altus Pageant" in 1970. In 1994, she was in the Mrs. Oklahoma pageant, where she placed third. She married Merl Hysinger in May of 1993, and they lived happily for 32 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Buzz LaFevers; and a sister, Phyllis Price.
Carole is survived by her husband, Merl, of the home; a son, Jeffrey Graham and wife, Julie; grandson, Taylor Graham and family; and many friends and other family members.
The Hysinger family will host a memorial reception from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Arrangements and cremation are under the care of the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
