Obituary for Carolyn Ann Bailey
BAILEY
Carolyn Ann Bailey, age 79, of Altus, passed away Monday morning, October 6, 2014, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.
Mrs. Bailey was born south of Blair, Oklahoma, on the family farm, on October 20, 1934, to Harold and Alice (Martin) Nipp. A 1952 graduate of Blair High School, Carolyn was also a member of the 1952 Blair Girls" Basketball State Championship Team. During her senior year, Carolyn married Jimmy Mack Bailey on December 22, 1951. They spent fifty-three wonderful years together before his death on September 22, 2005. After graduation, Carolyn began keeping books for the Martha Coop and later worked for Garnett Credit Bureau. In 1962 the family moved to Burkburnett, Texas, returning to Altus in 1968, when she began employment with KP Construction Company as a bookkeeper. Carolyn later moved to Yates John Deere Implement Company where she kept the books for many years, retiring in 2005. A longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, Carolyn enjoyed oil painting and China painting, but most of all she loved being with her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Nettie Dennis and Linda Lobaugh and three brothers, Carriel "Cheese" Nipp, William Harold "Jug" Nipp and Gerald Wayne Nipp, she is survived by one daughter, Susan Launius and husband Paul of Amarillo, Texas; three sons, Jimmy Jack Bailey and wife Gay of Pratt, Kansas, Jerry Bailey and wife Lisa of Mustang and John Bailey of Altus; five grandchildren, Justin Bailey and wife Tiffany of Pratt, Kansas, Jory Lynn Bailey of Kingfisher, Leslie Strong and husband Trenton of Hinton, Jeremy Bailey of Norman and Shelby Bailey of Houston, Texas; five great grandchildren, Emersyn Bailey, Karsyn Bailey, Tyler Strong, Braydon Strong and Jade Morgan Bailey; one sister, Edith Lou Biddy of Dallas; one brother Don Nipp and wife Jo of Tulare, California along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Carolyn Bailey will be at 10 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Player officiating and Pastor Doug Altom officiating. Interment will follow at the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims on Thursday evening from 6:30 until 8 p.m.
