Obituary for Carolyn L. Bowling
Carolyn L. Boling, age 82, passed away June 14, 2002 at her home in Yukon, Oklahoma where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, James and Carol Scalf. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Boyd Whitehead will officiate and burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home to receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Carolyn was born March 4, 1920 in Knoxville, Tennessee to parents Elmer and Ailene Gaines. Carolyn lived in Altus since the early 1960's except for five years in Knoxville, Tennessee. She had lived with her daughter Carol and son-in-law James since 1985. She worked as a dedicated nurse in the nursing homes and retired in 1985 from the Altus House Nursing Home. She moved to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1996 but returned to Yukon, Oklahoma in 2001. While living in Tennessee she was a volunteer for the Town of Farragut's Unsung Navy. During her stay in Tennessee she became "Grandma" to Carol's co-workers and friends. She had a compassionate love for her family, friends, the Great Smoky Mountains, the Tennessee Vols and she kept her son-in-law busy keeping bird feed in her many bird feeders. She loved to sit and watch the birds from her chair.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gaines; a beloved son, James William "Jimmy" Boling in 1967; three brothers; one sister and her devoted canine companion of eighteen years, "Shotzee".
Carolyn is survived by two daughters, Carol Scalf and husband James of the home, Helen Tafoya and husband Gene of Altus; six granddaughters, Linda Greenwell of Perry, Oklahoma, Melody Overfield and husband Brian of Altus, Carrie Lee Maddox of Altus, Terri Lynn Jiminez and husband Joe of Altus, Shawn McCubbin of Mustang, Oklahoma and Melony Nettleton and husband Greg of Altus; twelve great-grandchildren, Jamie, Brian, Kelly, Jimmy, Brandon, Brittany, George, Lexy, Crystal, Gabby, Seth and McKenzie Ann; three great-great-grandchildren, Colten, Kaylee and Seth; one sister, Kathleen Fulton of Knoxville, Tennessee; special nephew, David Fulton and wife Gina of Clinton, Tennessee; special friends, Steve and Shirley Coker of Powell, Tennessee and Helen and Janice Hood of Halls, Tennessee. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends in both Altus, Oklahoma and Knoxville, Tennessee. The family has asked that memorial donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital or the American Heart Association.
