Obituary for Carolyn Myers
Carolyn Kilburn Myers, 63. longtime Altus resident, died Tuesday afternoon. Services are set for 2:00pm Friday, January 31, 1997 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Altus City Cemetery.
Carolyn was born July 3, 1933 to John "Jack: and Hattie Kilburn of Ardmore, Oklahoma. She spent her childhood in Ardmore and moved to Altus in the early 1950's. Carolyn and Carroll Meyers were united in marriage December 24, 1975 in Altus, Oklahoma. She participated in numerous community activities including coordinating the Downtown Merchant's Association Christmas Parade, serving for several years as secretary of the Altus women's Bowling Association and co-chairing the reservoir tree planting.
Carolyn served on the Community Oriented Policing Leadership Council and was appointed to the Altus Community Work Center Advisory Committee. She served as chairman of the Oklahoma Reformatory Advisory Council, was active in the Altus Human Rights Commission and the Oklahoma Justice Fellowship Task Force. She was also instrumental in raising funds for the Graffiti machine to give to the City of Altus for the Graffiti wagon.
She was an avid bridge player, was a board member of the Sooner Unit of ACBL in Oklahoma City serving as their Duplicate Bridge tournament Coordinator and was chairman of the Altus Duplicate Bridge Tournament.
Carolyn most recently was one of eight Altus citizens elected as freeholder to draft the new home rule charter. She spent endless hours researching information and spearheading measures that are integral parts of the charter. She considered one of her greatest accomplishments serving the City of Altus in this capacity.
Carolyn Meyers was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mynan Kilburn; son John Badger and daughter, Rebecca Badger, Randy Badger, Norman, Oklahoma, Lanie Swihart, Jennifer Bogle and grandchildren; Emily Swihart, Lindsay Swihart, Tanner, Swihart, Blake Pewo, Brandon Pewo, Sarah Bogle, Derek Myers, Jared Myers, Candace Kiehn, Brandon Shultz.
