Catherine "Betty" Elzora Rozell Hatter was born June 3, 1926, in Twitty, Wheeler County, Texas, to Eliza Whittenburg Rozell and Ernest Bryan Rozell. She married Travis Wayne Hatter on December 3, 1949, and they have one son, Richard Wayne Hatter. Betty passed at her residence on Thursday, November 19, 2015, in Elk City, Oklahoma, at 89 years of age.
She attended school in Texas and Oklahoma where she graduated from Ocina High School. Betty lived most of her life in Mangum, Oklahoma, and Greer County. She worked in banking at the First State Bank of Granite and also at the First State Bank of Willow serving for many years as vice president. In addition, she was a great asset in the operation of the family ranch.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Mangum, Betty was a devoted Christian whose love, inspiration, cheerfulness, spirited attitude, and optimism touched many throughout her life. She took joy in being with family and friends, and will be missed deeply by those having the wonderful opportunity to have known her.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wayne, her parents, and three siblings; Maxine Cooper of Granite, Oklahoma; Ruby Stovall of Sun City West, Arizona; and Raymond Rozell of Willow, Oklahoma. She is survived by her son, Richard of New York City; her sister, Fayetta Smith of Willow and Altus, Oklahoma; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Other survivors include many close family members and a great number of friends.
Funeral services for Catherine "Betty" Hatter will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Mangum with Reverend Ben VanVacter and Pastor Mark Stanczyk officiating. Interment will follow at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends on Monday, November 23, 2015, from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.
