Obituary for Cephus A. Carruthers
Cephus Carruthers Cephus was born to John W. Sr. and Mollie Lee Carruthers on March 20, 1926 in Blooming Grove Texas. We was reared in Altus, Oklahoma where he attended Lincoln High School. He served in the U. S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He married Catherine Hunnicutt who preceded him in death and later married Rosie Rice who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his loving parents John W.Sr. Hand Mollie Lee Carruthers and one sister Fleeta Rihem. He leaves two brothers and wives, Ancil and Dorothy Carruthers of Altus, Oklahoma and John Jr. and Norma of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, nine children, Cephus A. Jr. of Lancaster, California, Freddie L. of New Albany, Indiana, Howard D. of Las Angeles, California, Billy Ray of Las Vegas, Nevada, Phillip Ray of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jackie Lee of Enis, Texas, Patsy Sheffield, Enis, Texas, Mollie Ann Randle of Amarillo, Texas and Loretta Veale of Altus, Oklahoma. Three Aunts, Ceaky Lewis of Oklahoa City, Oklahoma, Dorothy Jackson of Altus, Oklahoma, and Lillie Mae Jackson of Altus, Oklahoma, two cousins raised as brothers, M. T. Gould of Altus, Oklahoma and Luther Gould of New York, ten nephews Arlene Rice, Victor Carruthers, Claude Carruthers, Darrlye Carruthers, Marcus Carruthers, Ancil Carruthers Jr., John S. Carruthers, Clifton E. Carruthers, Dee Wayne Jones and Theophilus Carruthers. Five nieces: Jeweline King, Verletta Morgan, LeJune Garrison, Sheila Douglas and Petra Carruthers, and a host of Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends. Services are scheduled for Thursday, October 11, 2000 at 11:00 AM in the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ancil Carruthers officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
