Obituary for Charles Barry Davis
Barry Davis age 63 of Blair, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, March
29, 2005 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born September 28, 1941 in Hobart, Oklahoma to Charles W.
and Opal (McElroy) Davis. Barry graduated Blair High School in 1960. After graduating
high school he entered the United States Army in 1966 where he served a tour of duty in
Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1968. He worked in steel construction and owned
and operated a welding shop in Blair for several years.
Barry graduated from WOSC in 1976 and furthered his education at Southwestern
Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, Oklahoma. He received a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Arts Education in 1981 and later received his Masters Degree from SWOSU.
On June 4, 1961 Barry and Mary Jo Butchee were united in marriage at
the First Baptist Church in Blair, Oklahoma, where they have spent many wonderful
years together.
He taught at Cashion Public Schools for one year before returning to Blair, Oklahoma. In 1982 he implemented and taught industrial education program at WOSC retiring in 2002. He took over the Rodeo program at WOSC in the mid 1980's, and was a coach and mentor to many students. Over the years he couched twenty-three championships either students at WOSC or students that had been through the program. He served for six years as Central Plains Regional faculty Director. He served as National President for two terms and served as a National Faculty Board Member for four years.
After retirement Barry had many hobbies he enjoyed including working at the farm, "Rodeos" his family and his special time with his grandchildren. He always put himself last so he could do first for other. Barry was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Blair, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jo Davis of the home in Blair.
Oklahoma, two daughters; Anita Lee Martinez and her husband Adolfo of Blair, Oklahoma, Tara Jo Davis of Blair, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his mother Opal Davis of Blair, Oklahoma; his grandchildren Morgan Danielle Martinez, Mitchell Chase Martinez, and Ayden Davis , Lee Stewart all of Blair; one brother Rick Davis and his wife Jan of Blair, Oklahoma, brother-in-law John Butchee and wife Linda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, sister-in-law Iverna Kennedy and husband Pat of Warren, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives many, many friends and colleagues.
He is preceded in death by his father Charles William Davis, mother-in-law and father-in-law Charles and Anita Butchee, brother-in-law Dee Butchee.
Funeral services for Barry Davis is scheduled for Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 3:00pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Mitchell and Dale Hirschman officiating. Interment will follow at the Warren Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6;00pm to 8:00pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Western Oklahoma State College Rodeo Team
Scholarship Fund or Blair First Baptist Church Youth Group in memory of Barry Davis.
