Obituary for Charles Clarence Beck

Charles Clarence Beck, 71, of Duke, Oklahoma, and formerly from Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020, at his home in Duke.

Charles was born in Hollis, Oklahoma, on July 12, 1948, to his parents Clarence Monroe Beck and Veta Pauline (Wilkerson) Beck. He grew up in Duke, Oklahoma, and attended Duke Public Schools - a proud graduate of the Class of 1966. He briefly attended college in Altus until he was drafted. Before entering active military service, Charles broke his back in a car accident and was turned down by the military draft board. His first job was working on furniture with his dad at Darby's in Duke. Then he worked at American Gypsum of Duke. As a young man, he enjoyed baseball and going to the lake near Altus. He moved to Biloxi and worked for Anheuser-Bush for over 17 years. He was often part of a softball or baseball league while in Biloxi. After moving back to Duke, he lived in the same home he grew up in, where he proudly flew the American flag. He enjoyed going to Duke High School basketball games. He also enjoyed watching Charles Stanley on TV, reading his KJV Study Bible, and listening to traditional hymns. In recent years he loved to spoil his dog Duke - Charlie's faithful companion. His new puppy Sarge became a buddy to both. Charlie enjoyed talking on the phone to family and visiting with or helping a neighbor, if possible. He will always be remembered as Uncle Charlie with a twinkle in his eye and a big laugh to let you know he was kidding. He is loved and will be missed!

Charles is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Elnora Dill, Gloria Beck, and Sandra Brazil; nephew Rory Dill; and niece Glori (Dill) Hensley. Charles is survived by nieces and nephews and their families living in southeast Oklahoma: Laneau Duncan and husband Harry of Mannsville; Veta Massengale and husband Bobby of Bennington; Matt Dill and wife Patricia of Calera; Mark Dill and wife Zene of Calera; and Duke "Dewey" Dill and wife Kari of Boswell. Charles is also survived by niece Alisha Robinson of Iraq and her son in the military; niece Teresa Moore and husband Steve of Geneva, Alabama and their three children and seven grandchildren; niece Melisa Harvey and husband Randy of Waxahachie, Texas and their three children and one grandchild; and niece Diana Hummingbird and husband Brandon of Evans Mills, New York and their four children.

Memorial donations can be made to the Westside Animal Clinic in Altus (580-477-1623) to help those struggling to pay veterinarian expenses.

Private services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus.
