Obituary for Charles Lindsey Box
Our loving father and grandfather, Charles "Chili" Lindsey Box, passed away on March 18th, 1996 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Charles was born February 14th, 1931 in Claude, Texas to George and Gladys Box. He grew up in Altus and graduated from Altus High School in 1950. He married the former Valerie May in 1956 and they made their home in Altus, Oklahoma.

Charles was a past President of the Altus Jaycee's, a former City Councilman, a member of the Elks Club, past Post Commander of the VFW, past District Commander of the VFW, past Civil Defense Chairman of the State of Oklahoma VFW, past Board Member of the First Methodist Church, past President of his Sunday School Class (Excelsior) at the First Methodist Church. While City Councilman, he was instrumental in starting Little League Baseball in Altus.

Charles was employed with Moore's Wholesale for years and later owned Blair Food before retiring in 1986, Since his retirement he had been very active in the Oklahoma National Guard, 45th Division reunion activities locally.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brother George; sister, Helen Rosenbaum; and his loving wife Valerie.

He is survived by: two children, his son, Craig of Enid, OK and his daughter, Cathy Odom of Wichita Falls, TX; five grandchildren, Courtney, Whitney, and Austin Box of Enid, OK and Jason and Stephen Odom of Wichita Falls, TX.

Services are scheduled for Thursday, March 21, 1996, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Altus. Officiating will be Rev. Scott Spencer. Interment will follow at the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
