Charles Robert Price, 72, of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Friday, September 8, 2000 in Altus. Charles was born September 12th, 1927 at Mangum, Oklahoma to A. B. and Maude (Biffle) Price. He grew up and went to school in Mangum, graduating from Mangum High School in May 1945. He later graduated from Sayre Junior College.

On September 19 1945, he married Julia Evelyn Dutton at Mangum. They were blessed withy two daughters, Shirley and Jan.

In 1946, Charles enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in the occupation forces in Japan during World War 11 where he was a driver for an election team overseeing the first Democratic election in Japan. After discharge form the Army, he worked as a cleaner and wool presser for 999
Cleaners in Elk City, Oklahoma. As a member of the Army Reserve, he was called to serve during the Korean War. When he returned, he joined the National Guard on December 24, 1953 an later became the Administrative Staff Technician for the unit. In 1965, he moved to Altus and worked as Administrative Specialist for Headquarters and HQ Battery of the Oklahoma National Guard. During his military service, he continued his education by attending many Army schools. He was the recipient of many awards and Commendation Medals. He retired in 1987 with 33 years military service and the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4.


Charles trusted Christ as his Savior at the age of 17. He was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church until his health began to fail. He served as a Deacon, Bible Teacher and as a Personnel Committee member.

He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn of the home in Altus; two daughters, Shirley Brazeal and her husband Jimmie of Sanford, Texas and Jan Sherwin of Tulsa Oklahoma; two brothers John Wesley Price of Mangum, Oklahoma and Elmer Lowry Price of Los Angeles, California; five grandchildren, Rowena McKinney of Amarillo, Texas Laquita Andrews of Houston, Texas, Tony Graham of Lawton Oklahoma, Holly Phillips of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Blake Sherwin of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Also surviving are 6 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Price was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Services for Charles Robert Price have been scheduled for Monday, September 11, 200 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Boyd Whitehead and Rev. Bill Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum, Oklahoma. Lowell Tims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
