Clarence “Melvis” Ritter age 81 longtime resident of Mangum, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Mangum Nursing Center.
Melvis was born on April 3, 1941 in Lyndsey, Oklahoma to his parents Robert and Myrtle Ritter. He met his longtime bride Velma Ince and they were married after a short engagement in Wellington, Texas, for almost 62 years. The young couple made their home in Texas for a short time before making the long move to Everett, Washington. The couple spent the next 14 years in Washington raising their three children. Melvis enjoyed living in Washington allowing him to be close to the mountains and the ocean since fishing and hunting were his favorite pastimes.
In 1979, the family moved back to Mangum. Returning home was always on his heart. Melvis held many jobs over the years from Nord Door Company, Dozer Operator, Truck Driver, and County Worker However, his most honored title was Greer County Ambulance Driver. Melvis served the residence of Greer County for Seventeen plus years driving the Ambulance with pride. He would spend his Saturdays changing the oil and restocking the Ambulances. Even though this was a volunteer position, He committed himself to the Ambulance with all of his heart and soul.
Preceded in death by his parents Robert Ritter and Myrtle Bell Combs Ritter, Brother John Robert Ritter, Brother Billy Lee Ritter, Brother Wesley Lane Ritter, and Brother Floyd Neal Ritter.
Melvis is Survived by his wife Velma Louise Ince Ritter of the home, Sister Effie Ada Thompson, Mangum Nursing Center, Brother Skipper Ray Ritter and Wife Peggy of Mangum, Daughter Teresa Louise Pena and husband Freddy of Sinton, Tx, Son Roy Dale Ritter of Headrick, OK and Daughter Cynthia Dianne Clark and husband Tom of Mangum. Also survived by nine Grandchildren and Sixteen Great Grandchildren as well as numerous other family members and friends.
