Obituary for Dale Carlos Chaney
Dale Carlos Chaney, Altus resident, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2022 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma. He was 76 years old at the time of his death.

Dale was born on August 7, 1946 in Lake Village, Arkansas to his parents, George and Helen (Smith) Chaney. He grew up in Bastrop, Louisiana and attended school there.

Dale briefly served in the U.S. Army as a mechanic and driver in the military police from 1964 through1966. While enlisted, he achieved the rank of Army Specialist (SPC). Dale was a proud veteran of the Korean War and was also a member of the Army Reserves.

Returning to civilian life, Dale worked as a Maintenance Multicraft Journeyman Mechanic for International Paper, his employer for 44 years, his career spanning both the old and new Bastrop mills. He retired from there in 2007.

Dale's hands were skilled and his heart was generous. Dale enjoyed dirt track racing, working on cars, fishing, and going for a drive in his pick-up truck. Dale loved being outdoors and observing wildlife. He liked birdwatching all kinds of birds but his favorites were waterbirds. He was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Chaney; and his brother, Sheldon Chaney.

Left to cherish the warmth of his everlasting memory are his two beloved daughters: Julie Young and her husband, Marc Young; and Aimee Socha and her husband, Stan Socha; his sister, Carolyn Watters and husband, Ronnie Watters; four precious grandchildren: Ann Marie Chaney; Audrey Marsh; George Socha; and Jane Socha; as well as host of other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Dale will be interred alongside his parents at Bastrop Memorial Cemetery in Bastrop, Louisiana. The family will arrange a graveside memorial service to be announced at a later date.

Memorials can be made in Dale's honor to:
