Obituary for Danny Jay Leathers
Danny Jay Leathers, 63, lifetime resident of Southwest Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011. He was born March 24, 1947, in Hollis, Oklahoma, to Jack and Gladys (Fails) Leathers. He attended Ron High School until it closed in 1964 and graduated from Hollis High School. He then went on to receive his Bachelors Degree from Southwestern State in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He married Sharon Freeburg on August 25, 1976, on a sailboat in South Lake Tahoe.
Danny and Sharon attended the Altus Christian Fellowship Church. He loved to attend basketball games with Sharon, especially the OU and High School games. He collected guns, fishing memorabilia, old signs, and old license plates. He loved his Corvette, but most of all, he loved every minute that he and Sharon could spend together. He and Sharon enjoyed travelling and seeing the sights. Danny was a hard worker and owned and operated his own construction businesses, Dan Leathers Construction and DL Homes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Gladys Leathers and two sisters, Maxine Garner and Sammie Kerbo.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of the home in Altus; children, Greg Leathers and wife Allessia of Cape Coral, Florida and their daughter, Rafaela Leathers; Michael Leathers and wife Renae' of Aurora, Texas and their children, Victoria Prescott and husband Jesse and Corbin Leathers; and Angela Eiganman and husband Darrell of Wellington, Texas and their children, Amber Taylor and husband Brandon, Lacey Moore and Michael Moore; and Amber and Lacey's children, Addison Jaye Taylor and Daylen Latham; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
The family will be holding a Memorial Service for Danny Leathers at 4:00 pm, Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Altus Christian Fellowship Church, 107 N. Hudson, Altus. (This is located in the former Plaza Theater.) They invite their many friends to join them for this Celebration of Life.
