Darlene Delann Price, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, artist, teacher, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, in Altus, Oklahoma, at the age of eighty-eight.
Born on October 2, 1937, in Delaware, Ohio, Darlene lived a life marked by devotion, creativity, compassion, and a deep love for the Lord. From an early age, she possessed a gentle spirit and an artist's eye, seeing beauty in both the grand and ordinary moments of life. Whether through the delicate strokes of watercolor paintings, the quiet elegance of nature, or the kindness she extended to others, Darlene reflected the beauty she so deeply appreciated.
She graduated from Willis B. Hays High School in 1955 before attending The Ohio State University, where her love for art continued to blossom. Encouraged and inspired by an accomplished artist and her grandfather, William Wallace Ferguson, Darlene cultivated a lifelong passion for watercolor and freehand artistry. Art was never simply a hobby to her, it was an expression of her soul and the ls through which she viewed Gold's creation. While attending college, Darlene met Robert Franklin Monroe, a young Air Force officer whose handsome uniform first caught her attention, but whose character and devotion won her heart. The two were united in marriage in 1959 and made their home in Lima while Robert served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. Together they built a loving home and were blessed with a son, Franklin, in 1961, and a daughter, Kimberly, in 1964.
Darlene's life was deeply rooted in faith and family. She devoted herself to Christian education and was passionately involved with Lima Christian Academy, believing wholeheartedly that children should be raised upon strong biblical foundations. Though soft-spoken and humble, she stood courageously for what she believed was right, advocating for the rights of parents to provide Christian education for their children. She taught for many years and, in her quiet selflessness, often sacrificed financially so her own children could remain grounded in the Christian values she treasured most. Her relationship with Christ was the guiding light of her life. Raised in the Methodist faith, Darlene later came to embrace the Baptist faith after hearing the Gospel and feeling called to fully surrender her life to the Lord. Her faith was sincere, steadfast, and evident in the way she loved others. She became a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Milton, where she found great joy in worship, fellowship, and serving the Lord she loved so dearly.
In retirement, Darlene and Robert moved to Florida, where they enjoyed many cherished years together. Following Robert's passing, Darlene later reconnected with Jack Price, a man she had first met during her college years. Their renewed friendship blossomed into love, and they were married in 2013, making their home in Columbus, Ohio. She moved to Milton, Florida, in 2018 and lived with her daughter for several years. In 2025, Darlene moved to Altus to be near her daughter and granddaughter, finding comfort and joy in the closeness of family during her final season of life.
She is survived by her loving children, Franklin Monroe and Kimberly McCoy; her six cherished grandchildren, Tyler Moody, Kameron Delann Gardipee and husband, Jonathan, Jeffrey Monroe, Kristin Richardson and husband Chad, Katrina Rubb and husband Kevin, and Kelly Mullins and husband Jacob; her ten treasured great grandchildren, Benjamin, Lilah, Alexandria, Lincoln, Henry, Patrick, Andrew, Daniel, Bonnie, and Annabelle; her sister, Juddean Kauble; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Monroe; her second husband, Jack Price; her daughter-in-law, Debra Monroe; her parents; and her younger sister, Donnajean Jewett.
Darlene will be remembered for her gentle heart, artistic soul, elegant spirit, and abiding faith in Christ. She found beauty everywhere she looked and, through her life, helped others see it too. Above all, she loved the Lord, and her life was a quiet testimony of grace, kindness, and devotion. Her legacy will continue through the family she cherished, the students she influenced, and the countless lives touched by her warmth and faith. She will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware, Ohio, next to her husband, Jack Price.
