Obituary for David Edward Shibley
David E. Shibley, Sr., age 70, of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away after a long battle with cancer on February 6, 2013, at home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Utica, New York on September 19, 1942, to John and Mary (Eilers) Shibley. David graduated from the Utica Free Academy and joined the United States Air Force to follow his childhood passion for aircraft. He retired from the Air Force in 1985, after 24 years but could not leave his passion behind. He decided to continue his craft with the Civil Service for another 23 years. He gave his country 47 years of service before he decided to relax and enjoy his retirement.
David was married to E. Jean Johnston on February 8, 1964 to start his family. They were married for 49 years. He was devoted to his craft, his wife and his family. He was passionate about every aspect of his life and was a wonderful husband and father.
He was survived by his mother, Mary Shibley of Utica, New York; one brother, John H. Shibley; one sister, Peggy Ayers; his wife, Jean Shibley of the home; two sons, David Shibley Jr. and wife, Diane of Napa, Ca. and Steven Shibley of Altus; two daughters, Teresa Shibley of Dunsmuir, Ca and Karen Drone and husband Dan of Roanoak, TX; 8 grandchildren, Tara Shibley, Mike Shibley, Shane Shibley, Kalen Shibley, Ryan Drone, Corbin Drone, Kerigan Drone and Daylin Jackson; and 5 great-grandchildren, Carrie White, Ethan Crawford, Jason Shibley, Christopher Shibley and Clayton Shibley. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his father, John "Jack" Shibley; one sister, Theresa Marie Shibley; and one brother, Nicholas Shibley.
Services have been scheduled for 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. Joseph Sundar Pudota officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
