Obituary for David Joseph Smith
David Joseph Smith, Sr., 64, of Blair, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was born December 21st, 1946 in Houma, Louisiana to Junius Charles and Irma Josephine (Malbrough) Smith.
He was a Jet Engine Mechanic in the United States Air Force and was stationed to Altus Air Force Base in 1965. On August 25, 1966, David and Linda Ware were married at the First Assembly Church in Altus. They made their home and raised their children in Blair, Oklahoma. David was currently employed with the Civil Service on Altus Air Force Base as a Jet Engine Mechanic. He was a member of St. Paul's Ministry.
David was a man of varied interests. He loved NASCAR and watched the races when possible. He was fascinated by tractors and was in the process of restoring a couple that he had found. He was a good handyman and seldom came upon anything he couldn't fix. He loved to sing and play the drums and was very good at both. David enjoyed taking his dog for early morning walks and enjoying the beginning of each day.
He was preceded in death by his father, Junius Charles Smith; his father-in-law, Buddy Ware; mother-in-law, Don Nell Ware Graves; and step-father-in-law, Wayne Graves.
David is survived by his wife, Linda Smith of the home in Blair; his mother, Irma Smith of Houma, Louisiana; three children, David Smith, Jr. and wife Misty of Blair, Oklahoma, Brian Smith and wife Belinda of Van Alstyne, Texas and Christy Meli and husband Randy of Blair; one brother, Keith Paul Smith and wife Christine of Houma, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Michael Keith Smith, Brianna Leigh Smith and Karee Beth Smith; one sister-in-law, Becky Ware Vigil of Altus; nieces, Melody GIbson and husband Jerry of Altus and Claire Chaisson and husband Glaise of Houma, Louisiana; great-niece and nephew, Peyton and Lily Chaisson; and by a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services have been scheduled for 3:30 pm, Friday, October 298, 2011 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. Heath Tucker and Pastor B.J. Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family will be receiving guests at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 6:30 until 7:30 pm, Thursday evening, October 27th.
