Obituary for Dawnita Lynn Stoddard

Dawnita Lynn Stoddard, longtime resident of Hollis, Oklahoma and former resident of Olympia, Washington passed away on July 17th, 2023, at the age of sixty-five.


On July 28th, 1957, to Christopher Dunkelberger and Patricia Dunkelberger in Olympia, Washington gave birth to a daughter, Dawnita Lynn Dunkelberger. She was raised and educated in Olympia, Washington with her brother and sisters. Dawnita graduated from Capital High School. Following her graduation, she started working at Olympia Credit Union. On October 16, 1976, Dawnita married the love of her life and other half, Randy Stoddard. This marriage would be blessed with two children, a daughter, Sherry and a son, Christopher. Being a mother brought Dawnita immense joy. She loved being a homemaker and providing for her children and giving them an incredible childhood. Dawnita was a proud Air Force Wife, serving in numerous clubs and organizations in numerous duty stations. The Stoddard family was stationed in numerous bases, RAF Lakenheath, England where Dawnita worked as a cook at the officer’s club, Pope AFB, NC, Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada. After Randy retired from military service the Stoddard's made their forever home in Hollis, Oklahoma. After moving to Hollis, Dawnita began working as a kitchen supervisor at Hollis Work Center. She had a reputation as a hard worker, a passionate cook, and a mother to all the neighborhood children. There wasn’t a thing Dawinta wouldn’t do for her family, she loved them more than anything in this life. She was always working on projects for the family, and truly enjoyed ironing and crocheting. She also enjoyed staying in touch with her extended family members, making sure to call them as much as possible. Of all the things she did in this life Dawinta would tell you that being a MeMe to Rachel, Sarah, Dylan and Christopher was her greatest accomplishment. She leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her family.


Dawnita was preceded in death by her father, Christopher "I” Dunkelberger and mother, Patricia Dunkelberger.


Left to honor her memory include her husband of forty-six years, Randy Stoddard; son Christopher Stoddard and wife Angela of Hollis, Oklahoma; daughter Sherry Winger and husband Michael of Hollis, Oklahoma; brother Tim Dunkelberger and wife Beth; sisters Christina Brandt and husband Jim, Amy Tripp and husband Ted, Bonnie Williams and husband Mark, Pamela Dunkelberger, Paula Dunkelberger, Helen Ly, and Lanetta Corrigan and husband Damon; grandchildren Rachel Winger, Sarah Winger, Dylan Perkins, and Christopher Stoddard; as well as many other family members and friends.



The Stoddard family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.


Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2023, at Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel, Hollis, Oklahoma with interment to follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Hollis, Oklahoma.


Services are the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
