Obituary for Don Davenport
Don MIchael Davenport, 74 year-old Altus resident, passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK on April 29, 2022. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home & Crematory of Altus.

Don was born on April 28, 1948 in Jackson County, Oklahoma to his parents, Cleatus Darwin Davenport nd Virginia (McAlpine) Davenport. He grew up in the Altus area and attended school there. Don joined the United States Navy and served his country dutifully before receiving an honorable discharge. During his military career, Don earned a National Defense Service Medal; the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and a combat action ribbon signifying his meritorious service to his unit. Don transferred from Active duty to the Naval reserves in 1973.

Don married his beloved wife, Nedra Lee Dye, on November 18, 1974, in Vernon, Texas. Their union spanned over 48 wonderful years. Upon his return to civilian life, Don worked as a maintenance supervisor with the Republic Gypsum plant. He dedicated over 31 years of loyal service there before retiring.

Outside of work, Don enjoyed making knives, plowing the field with his tractor and spending time with his family, whom he loved very much. He touched the lives of many in a positive and meaningful way, and will be forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew him.

Welcoming Don into heaven's gates are his parents, Cleatus and Virginia Davenport; and his brother, John Darwin Davenport;

Left to honor his warm memory are his beloved wife, Nedra Davenport, of the home; his brother, David Davenport of New Mexico; three sisters: Jenny Lynn Kemp of Lawton, OK; Mary Valdez of ALtus, OK; and Charlotte Sutton of Texas; a host of other relatives including his adopted son, Joseph Clinton Leatherman of New Boston, TX; and Matthew Nelson of Altus; two nephews: Jeff and Scott Leatherman; several nieces, as well as many friends, comrades, co-workers and neighbors, and his favorite pet dog, Tinker.
