Doris Miller, resident of Headrick, Oklahoma, passed peacefully in her sleep on August 30, 2025. She was 95 years old. Doris was born on April 2, 1930, in Oklahoma City, to Herschel and Mayme Lewis. She was the youngest sibling of seven, including her twin sister, Dorothy. Growing up in Oklahoma City, she lived next door to the Brisco family. The Brisco daughters, Doris' "little sisters," introduced her to their uncle, Carroll Miller. After their courtship, Doris and Carroll were married on November 25, 1950, in Oklahoma City. They lived there until 1952 when they moved to the Miller homeplace and farm near Headrick, Oklahoma. Doris helped with farming chores while raising four daughters. She stepped out of her comfort zone in 1974 by taking the job as an assistant postmaster in Headrick, in a role she quickly embraced. Doris retired in May of 1992 after a dedicated career.
Doris was a longtime member of the Headrick First Baptist Church, where she taught the Bible in various classes and pointed many people to Jesus as a personal savior. She lived out her faith in the Lord daily through Bible study and was also a devoted prayer warrior for her family and friends, always lifting them up in times of both need and celebration. Doris and her twin sister, Dorothy, shared a special fondness for quilts. She also enjoyed puzzles of all kinds, including word games and jigsaw puzzles, especially at Christmas time. She loved playing a good game of Skip-Bo with her kids and grandkids and passed on her love for reading to each of her daughters. Her dad was an engineer for the Frisco Railroad, which led to her love of all things related to trains.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll, her parents, Herschel and Mayme, and, on December 31, 2024, her grandson, Jared Adcock. She was also preceded in death by her four sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her daughters, Anita Miller of Altus, OK, Phyllis (Kim) Stephens of Piedmont, OK, Margaret (Jesse) Adcock of Kingman, KS, and Cathy Miller of Oklahoma City; four granddaughters, Jessica (Jimmy) Jenkins of Piedmont, OK, Becca Stephens of Oklahoma City, Melody (Cale) Longhofer of Coats, KS, and Alicia Adcock of Pratt, KS; great-grandchildren, Jestyn and Jaysa Jenkins, Daeymn, Emrys, and Gwyndolin Adcock, and Huk Longhofer; her "little sisters," Carolyn (Jimell) Badry of Norman, OK and Jeanette (Jerry) Whitten of Mustang, OK; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at English Village, both past and present, for their love and care for their mom and grandma. Though she could be a bit feisty at times, she sincerely appreciated and was thankful for the kindness and attention she received.
The Miller family will host friends from 5:30 - 7:30 PM Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jay Badry officiating. Burial will follow in the Headrick Cemetery under the care of the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to a charity of your choice in Doris' name.
