Dorothy "Gayle" Walker, age 70, of Blair, passed away Monday morning, March 3, 2014, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.
Mrs. Walker was born west of City View, in Greer County, on October 27, 1943, to Delmer and Cornelia (Holt) Sullivan. Beginning school at City View, Gayle married the love of her life, Eddie Walker, on December 19, 1959, and they spent the next forty-seven wonderful years together before his death on August 2, 2007. As a young bride in high school, Gayle graduated from Stillwater High School in 1963, while Eddie was attending Oklahoma State University. In the mid 1960"s they moved back to Blair and a short time later, they moved to Edna, Texas before moving to Jourdanton, Texas, later returning to Blair where she lived until her death. In 1984, Gayle began working as a correctional officer at the Oklahoma State Reformatory, retiring in 2006. One of the top marksmen at OSR, Gayle was known as the family snake killer and gofer shooter, who enjoyed watching television, reading, working in the yard, fishing and taking trips on their motorcycles in their spare time.
Preceded in death by her father, Delmer Sullivan; her husband, Eddie Walker; one brother, Larry Sullivan and a grandson, Garrett Walker, she is survived by her mother, Cornelia Sullivan of Mangum; three children, Debbie Southall and husband Brent of Altus, Wesley Walker and wife Ollie of Blair and Lori Denney and husband Heath of Blair; eight grandchildren, Caitlyn Southall and fianc" Greg Shaw of Blair, Read Southall of Altus, Terrance Ozeretny of Mangum, Reece Walker and wife Kaylee of Blair, Brittany Ozeretny of Blair, Ciera Walker of Yukon, Keeli Toole and husband Clay of Mangum and Lexi Denney of Blair; five great grandchildren, Serenity Young, Kacie Ozeretny, Noah Singleton, Greyson Walker and Breckum Sanders; two sisters, Jean Hunter of Lake Creek and Joyce Duffer of Mangum; one sister-in-law, Ann Fagan and husband Eddie along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Gayle Walker will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Blair First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6 until 7 p.m.
