Obituary for Dorothy Sue Gribble
Mrs. Dorothy Sue (Hatch) Gribble passed away on February 29, 2012, in Oklahoma City at 94 years old. She was born in Eldorado, Oklahoma, on January 26, 1918, to Frank Alpheus (F.A.) and Theresa Welch (Wood) Hatch. She graduated from Eldorado High School in 1935. Following high school, she attended what was at that time the Oklahoma College for Women (now USAO) in Chickasha. She graduated in 1939 with degree in mathematics and teaching.
Dorothy Sue married Fred Gribble at her parents" home in Eldorado on December 24, 1939. They lived in Eldorado until Fred entered the service during World War II. Following the war, they lived in Lubbock, Texas, and then moved to Altus, Oklahoma, in 1947.
Dorothy Sue was a math teacher for 30 years before her retirement. She taught seventh grade math at Central Junior High in Altus for 27 years.
Dorothy Sue was as avid golfer, continuing to play every day until not long before she moved to an assisted living center in Oklahoma City.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus, the Altus Literary Club, and the Elks Gold and Country Club.
Dorothy Sue was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Fred Gribble, who passed away July 5, 2003. She is survived by her brothers, Frank W. Hatch of Eldorado, Bill Hatch of Wellington, Texas, Tim Hatch of Lubbock Texas, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great nephew.
Dorothy will lie in state at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus from Thursday 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and all day Friday until 7:00 p.m. She will then lie in state at Lowell-Tims Chapel in Eldorado from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., when the funeral procession will proceed to the Eldorado Cemetery for Graveside Services.
Graveside Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Eldorado Cemetery in Eldorado, Oklahoma, with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
