Obituary for Eddie Ray Williamson Sr.
Eddie Ray Williamson, Sr., 73, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 24, 2011 at Plantation Village Nursing Home. He was born on June 11, 1937, in Altus, Oklahoma, the son of Ray and Florence Lauderdale.
In 1958, he fell in love with Patsy Ann Thompson and they were married in Vernon, Texas. Eddie and Patsy had two children, Eddie Jr., and Jimmy. They spent 30 years together before her death on October 13, 1988.
In 1972, Eddie went to work for the Altus Fire Department, where he worked for 25 years. He was promoted to Lieutenant and served in this position until his retirement from the station in 1997. Eddie loved being a fireman and helping people, but also loved the men he worked with and the friendships he made. The guys he worked with knew him as quite a prankster. There were very few of his co-workers who he had not tricked out of a pocket knife or two at one time or another. He wasn't afraid to swipe one of his buddies knives to add to his large collection.
Eddie began working in construction at an early age and started his own business, Tuloma Construction, in 1982. He worked many years along with the help of his son Jimmy doing everything from remodel work to constructing metal buildings. He continued this trade until his health no longer permitted in June of 2010.
Some of the happiest times he had were spent sitting in his fishing boat or on the bank trying to catch a fish or two. No matter what the size of the fish, he always had a "tale" to share.
Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy and his mother and dad, Florence and Ray Lauderdale.
He is survived by his sons, Eddie Williamson, Jr. and wife Kristi of Altus, and Jimmy Williamson of Headrick; grandchildren, Kyle, Lindsay, and Alyssa Williamson, all of Altus, and Joseph Williamson, of Headrick; one brother, Ollie Williamson of Altus; one sister, Patsy Gafney and husband Sam of Amarillo, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services for Eddie Ray Williamson Sr. will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Tom Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Altus under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
