Edith Joyce Hill Hodge, age 78, was born on August 23, 1935 in Altus, Oklahoma, to Nancy Shivers Molett and Gentry Hill. She departed this earthly life on Thursday, December 5, 2013, after seventeen years at the English Village Nursing Home.
She was educated in the Altus school system and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955. Edith was an avid basketball player and played in the 1955 State Championship game.
She received her nurses" aide certificate from Vernon, Texas and worked at Jackson County Memorial Hospital for twenty-four years. She retired in 1991 because of her health.
Edith was a faithful member of St. John Baptist Church. She loved a being around her family and friends and will be remembered for her gentle spirit and heartwarming smile.
Edith married her high school sweetheart, Roy in 1960. To his union one daughter, Gwendolyn Elaine, was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, C. J. Molett, one sister Heartha Bellinger and husband Roy Hodge.
Edith leaves to cherish her memory; her daughter, Gwendolyn Elaine and husband Randle Hawkins, of Altus; two granddaughters; Tyra Hailey (William) of Los Angeles, California, Shamara Page of Columbus, Ohio; six great grandchildren, Cameron Hailey and Elias Page of Altus, Caila and Camille Hailey of Los Angeles, California, Xavier and Isaiah Page of El Paso Texas; one brother James Molett, Cheyene, Wyoming; one sister Mary Patterson, Las Vegas, Nevada; sister-in-law LaFern Griggs, Denver, Colorado; brother-in-law Ray Hodge (Sue), Los Angeles, California. She also leaves behind a host of Nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends including Lisa Maytubbie, her special caretaker and the English Village Nursing Home Family

Celebration of Life Funeral Services for Edith will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013, 3:00 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, Rev. Robert Bostic, officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Friday, December 13, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
