Obituary for Edward Emil Johnson
JOHNSON

Edward Emil "Buzz" Johnson, age 87, of Blair, passed away late Sunday, November 3, 2013, at his residence.
Buzz was born in Hobart, Indiana on August 24, 1926 to William Emil and Anna (Baker) Johnson. Growing up and attending school in the Chicago area, Buzz played football and aspired to be a professional gymnast before severely injuring two fingers in an accident. At the age of seventeen, Buzz signed up to serve in the United States Army, but had to wait until his eighteenth birthday to enlist in 1944. In the Army, Buzz served with the 7th Cavalry Division and was awarded several medals including one as an expert marksman. In 1946, Buzz tried out and made the Chicago Trojans, a farm team of the Chicago Bears, which he was a huge fan of. That same year, Buzz began working in the oil refinery as a metal craftsman, which he excelled at despite his hand injury. Buzz always worked very well with his hands, whether it was building his own home, doing his metal work or tinkering around the house. In 1964, Buzz met Rose Baker at the Methodist Church in Cedar Lake Indiana and it was true love at first site. On October 16, 1976 they would unite in marriage and spend the next thirty- seven wonderful years together before his death. In his free time, Buzz loved swimming, reading, watching Chicago Bear football, taking family and friends water skiing on his boat and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Joshua Martz and five siblings, James Johnson, Laura Rodriguez, Henrietta Oberman, Jim Johnson and Judy Cortez, Buzz is survived by his wife Rose of the home; eight children, Edward Russell Johnson and wife Beth, Rose Marie Artemis, Stephanie Elaine Borem, William Chester Wood III and wife Patty, Holly Luanne Johnson, David Alan Wood, Candy Carol Johnston and Stephan Dana Wood; one sister, June Johnson; thirty-one grandchildren; forty-five great grandchildren along with many other relatives and close friends.
A memorial service for Edward Emil "Buzz" Johnson will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Methodist church in Blair with Rev. Bruce Davis officiating and under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Blair United Methodist Youth Club.
