Obituary for Elfie Bailey
Elfie Bailey, 90 of Altus passed away February 9, 1979 in the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services were at 2:00 pm February 12, 1979 at the Tims Funeral Chapel with Rev Robert DeMoss and Rev. C.C. Gober officiating. Interment was in the Altus City Cemetery.

Elfie was born March 6, 1888 in Montaque County, Texas to George and Lucinda Ellen (Noblett) Savage. Her father was a pioneer minister of the gospel and was a state Senator so she grew up very well versed in the word of the gospel and the art of diplomacy. Elfie Married Floyd Bailey on November 17, 1917.

Mrs. Bailey received her Bachelors Degree from West Texas State College and her Masters Degree from SMU. She taught High School English at Wichita Falls, Texas for 10 before coming to Altus. She taught English in Altus for 20 years before her retirement.

Elfie was survived by her husband Floyd of the home; one sister Mrs. Paris Pruitt of Corpus Christi, Texas. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews including Zeb Wynes and Mrs. Jimmy Carter and a sister-in-law, Beatrice Bailey.
