Obituary for Emma F. Madden
Emma Fewell Madden died Friday, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be Sunday at 3:00pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Reverend Chris Alford, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church. Burial will be at Rock Cemetery at Duke.
She was born January 15, 1912, at Victory, Jackson County, Oklahoma, to pioneer parents, Thomas David and Frances McClure Fewell. She was a lifelong resident of Southwest Oklahoma. She graduated from Duke High School in 1929. She received a B.S. Degree from southwestern State College and a Master's Degree from Oklahoma University. She and Cecil Madden were married on November 4th, 1933, in Altus. He preceded her in death in 1963. She taught in area schools, Lincoln, Centralvue, Duke, Altus, Junior High, Altus High school, and Altus Junior College. She retired from Western Oklahoma State College in 1977.
Mrs Madden was active in Jackson County education Association, as well as the State Association. As a charter member of Amaranth. At Jackson County Retired teacher's Organization, she served as treasurer for many years.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star where she served in many stations. She also was a member of Amaranth. At Jackson County Memorial Hospital, she was a volunteer for 10 years. She helped to organize and was a charter member of N.A.P.. now L.A.M.P.
As a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church, she was a teacher and member of the Missionary Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Madden, her parents, a brother, Ralph Fewell, a sister, Robbie Bonds, and a niece, Laveta Jo elliott.
She is survived by a sister, Tommy Abernathy and her husband Raymond, two nieces, Ethelene Brunson, and Francis Sterling, two nephews, John Abernathy and Larry Abernathy, and six great nieces and three great nephews. Also, two sisters-in-law, Wilma Warren and Gracie Webb, and two brothers-in-law Cloral Madden and Gordon Thomason survive.
