Obituary for Emma Mae Littrell
Emma Mae Littrell
Emma Mae Littrell, 84, of Eldorado, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2006, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
Emma was born March 28, 1922, in Atoka, Oklahoma, to Fred and Emma Zonajane (Pauquit Mobbs. As one of eight children, Emma worked alongside her brothers in the field doing farm work. She attended school in the Atoka-Bentley area, where she met the love of her life, Lonnie Littrell. They married June 17, 1937, in Durant, Oklahoma, and six children were born to this union. The family moved from the Durant area and lived in several southwestern Oklahoma towns where they operated their custom hay harvesting/baling business. They eventually made their home in Eldorado and Emma worked hard to meet the needs of her family and later caring for he grandchildren as well. When her great-grandchildren came along, she had special nicknames for each one. The word "homemaker" did not do he justice because of the varied jobs in her lifetime. She loved cooking large meals for family gatherings and, in her earlier years, grew a variety of vegetables in her garden. She also enjoyed sewing and doing embroidery work.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Emma Zonajane Mobbs, her husband, Lonnie Littrell, two sons, Matthew and Phillep Littrell; one daughter Karen Ary; brothers, Floyd, Jess, and Ralph, and sisters, Annie, Maude, and Ida.
She is survived by one daughter, Janet Gurnick of Oklahoma City; two sons, Frankie, Eldorado, and Hershell of Altus; one sister, ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
