Obituary for Evelyn Crayton
Evelyn Crayton, 73, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Altus, passed away at her residence Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, 2014, in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Crayton was born in Elmore City on Feb. 16, 1940, to Raymond C. Prince, Sr. and Mae Bell Franklin. A 1958 graduate of Lincoln High School, in Altus, Evelyn spent most of her life in Jackson County and Kansas. She was united in marriage to Frederick Crayton, Sr. on March 9, 1967 and was married 20 years before his untimely death. She moved to Oklahoma City a short time ago to be near her children. An active member of New Hope Baptist Church, Evelyn loved her family and enjoyed fishing and cooking in her spare time.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Crayton Sr.; parents; three brothers and six sisters.
She is survived by three children, Vivian Stevenson of Oklahoma City, Don Gaffney, Jr. and wife Linda of Euless, Texas, and Kenneth Gaffney of Oklahoma City; five stepsons, Don Johnson of Oklahoma City, Frederick Crayton, Jr. and wife Lynn of Wichita, Kan., Cornelius Crayton of Wichita, Larry and Terry Crayton of the Philippines; eight brothers and sisters, Vergie Wade and husband James of Wichita, Helen Roland of Ponca City, Earlene Pruitt of Wichita, Ronnie Prince and wife Savannah of Markham, Ill., Kathleen Prince of Indianapolis, Ind., Raymond C. Prince, Jr. of Altus, Sharon Herring and husband James of Burnham, Ill. and Gail Robinson of Midwest City; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, Feb. 1 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Bostic officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, Jan. 31.
