Obituary for Everett Tafoya
Everett Eugene Tafoya was born on September 13th, 1936 in Gotebo, Oklahoma to Jesse and Lizzie Pearl Tafoya. He peacefully left this life at home surrounded by family on May 10th, 2020 to his home of rest. He graduated from Headrick High School in 1956 and enlisted in the United State Navy in 1957. He was stationed in San Diego, California at Miramar Naval Air Station for three years in the Eleventh Naval District, he then transferred to Alameda Naval Air station for one year. He met the love of his life, Helen Boling, while in California. They married August 10th, 1958 in La Mesa, California and had four daughters. Gene received honorable discharge in 1961 and returned to Oklahoma to serve in the Navy Reserves until 1963. He worked various jobs, raised his family, and called Altus home. He retired from Altus Air Force Base Fire Department where he served for nineteen years. His favorite past times included boating, fishing, camping, playing games tinkering and piddling with all kinds of things. He loved spending time with his family and watching his girls play City League basketball where he coached for several years.

Gene is preceded in death by both his parents, five brothers and six sisters. He is survived by his wife, Helen Tafoya of 61 years, four daughters: Linda Filtz and husband Robert of Perry, Oklahoma, Melody Overfield and husband Brian of Altus, Oklahoma, Carrie Tafoya of Georgetown, Ohio and Terri Jimenez of MidWest City, Oklahoma. Sister, Joyce Ann Mantzke and husband Gene of Joshua, Texas, Sister-in-law; Carol Scalf and husband James of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, He has ten grandchildren, eighteen great - grandchildren, three great- great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all his family, friends and acquaintances.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
