Fred Carl Wadley, a longtime resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away at his home on September 26, 2023.
On May 14, 1942, in Memphis, TX, Fred and Juanita (Latham) Wadley celebrated the birth of their son, Fred Carl Wadley. Carl was the third of ten children born into the Wadley home. He was raised and educated in the Hollis / Arnett area and graduated from Arnett High School.
Following high school, Carl started working as a mechanic for Amarillo Hardware. He was also a truck driver and a bus driver for Greyhound. Carl served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. He lived in Amarillo, Lubbock, and Burleson, TX before returning home to Hollis.
Carl enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on his truck, fixing appliances, driving around the countryside, and telling stories. He loved good food and was full of great jokes. But of all his hobbies and interests, Carl loved music the most. He played his guitar and sang in church every Wednesday and Sunday. He was a member of The Sunshine Gospel Group that played at Colonial Manor I and Colonial Manor II in Hollis. He also made the circuit around southwest Oklahoma to play at community music gatherings. Music was a way for Carl to express his feelings and bond with family and friends, and it was how he worshiped his lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Although Carl could be known as an ornery man, he was an honest man that took great pride in caring for those around him. He was the first to help a family member, friend, or even a stranger. Carl expressed his love with acts of kindness and appreciation. He enjoyed being on the go and stayed busy finding things to fix.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sisters, Oneta Kellison and Cathey Wadley; his brothers, Ronnie Wadley and Gary Mack Wadley; and his best friend, Marvin White.
Left to honor Carl’s memory are his three daughters, Jonna (Doug) Byers, Angela (Mike) Hall, and Shannon Cook; his brothers, Kenneth (Carol) Wadley and Eddie Wadley; his sisters Rita (Jerry Don) Chance, Kellie (Jimmy) Wright, and Jonelle (Ronnie) Murphy; his grandchildren, Blake (Natalie) Whitmire, Brenna Villareal, Jaci Byers, Jaden Byers, Jordan Byers, Brayden Cook, Michael (Kristin) Hall, Regan Hall, Emilie Hall and Austin Hall; great grandchildren, Max and Ben Hall; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Dodson Cemetery, Dodson, TX, followed by a memorial service with military honors at 11:00 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Hollis, OK.
